An old diesel truck is the loudest thing in the world on a quiet night after the world has
come to a kind of end. And those lights are the brightest. There’s something about one of those old Dodges, though, that when they’re tearing through the dark on a broken highway and rumbling like they do, that says to something deep in a person that you just let it pass.
In this truck there are desperate people. And they have done desperate things. The moon is just a sliver now and even though there are signs of spring behind them, they just drive on to more and more winter.
At least it’s warm in there. The heat just on its lowest setting, but the bodies pressed close and making the most of it. A boy sleeps and a man and woman talk. Planning things. Long term plans because the short term is where all the uncertainty lies. There is comfort in how they talk, and sometimes even laughter of all things. These two, they’ve forgotten what it’s like to have a normal night’s sleep, and being up late brings on laughter, even when it’s so dark out there. And so cold.This is one of those pay what you like deals. I'm thinking $2?
I'd like to publish my blog in chronological order in eBook form, too, but it will take forever. This is kind of a pilot program to see if it's worth the time and effort.
